The Demise: The Chronicles of John Doe

Introduction

They say one of the things you cannot escape from in life is death because death is inevitable and it will follow you no matter your age, gender, race, no matter where you go, no matter where you are, and no matter who you are. Death does not discriminate and it is certainly not biased. Death also comes when you least expect and again death knows no boundaries, no limits, or simply knows when to stop.

The Demise/Man Crying next to a dog and grave

Chapter One

Initially, John Doe was never into animals, he had no cat, no dog, or any pet of some sort and he also never considered buying or adopting one, but at the same time, he was close to people who loved and adored them. That however changed about two years ago when John got a puppy as a present for his birthday; at first, he was surprised and really skeptical but he finally acknowledged and went on to raise the puppy all by himself and struggled a bit at that also. It didn’t take long for John to get attached to the puppy.

He named the little puppy “Black-I” because the puppy had one eye that was actually black as if it is only just a pupil that was there, probably so because this world is full of unknown secrets and mysteries. It did not take too long for John to finally get into the groove of raising a fast-growing puppy dog, pretty soon he and "Black-I" were inseparable thus John took him almost anywhere he went. He even went far with it and got dog insurance for "Black-I". Those who know him very well are still surprised that he decided to keep the dog because they know he never had the slightest thought of doing so, but they too were happy, they acknowledged and welcomed this idea about John and they were rooting for him as well. Besides raising the dog John also had to train "Black-I" and teach him how to use the toilet and basically how to follow instructions, luckily the training did not take too long because "Black-I" was able to grasp very quickly. John a man who was always alone most of the time now has a companion he likes very much he makes sure that "Black-I" is well fed and well taken of at all times.

"Black-I" is a really smart and clever dog, and he is one of the extremely luckiest dogs to have landed on John’s doorstep because John Doe is a caring man and even though he didn’t seem to care much about animals he’d feel a bit sad if one of his friends lost their pet. It takes a lot to raise a pet because it is as if you are taking care of a human child. I guess it is true when they say “dog is man’s best friend” because it seems as though owning a pet has changed John’s perspective towards the animal world and how they behave towards the society they find themselves in, animals also need to stay in a good environment or else they might also run away if they are not taken care of, especially by their owners.

Unlike humans, dogs are certainly loyal to their owners most of the time and they tend to only bite the hand that feeds them when they are literally hungry, while humans will betray you even when you are good to them because mostly they are entitled to selfish and certainly dumb and ignorant beings. They are so loyal that they can immediately change from pet to protector, companion to bodyguard and they will always be there for you when you are an emotional wreck, alone, bored, or simply when you really need a friend even though they are unable to speak like humans. Some people sometimes decide that they would rather first raise a dog before actually trying to raise a human baby because they feel that by doing so they will somehow be well prepared and ready someday.

Chapter Two

Before "Black-I" came into the picture John was rather a man who was alone most of the time and he did most of the things alone, but now things have changed because he is no longer alone. Everywhere John goes he takes "Black-I" along with him and this time John has decided to go camping, something "Black-I" is not familiar with but John seems excited because this time he won’t be alone. It took just two weeks to prepare for the trip because John had to make sure he finds camping gear for his newest companion, but even so, there was something at the back of his mind that kept saying he should postpone the trip but he paid little or no attention to that as he was really excited that this time "Black-I" will be there to keep him good company.

Camping is only going to be a week-long and then after that, John plans on going sky diving because he has always wanted to do it but he had never attempted it before. Finally, the time for departure for the camping trip arrived and John is extremely excited about the trip, and as he makes sure that everything is in order one last time before leaving again he also makes sure that "Black-I" is well settled and that all of his belongings are well set, placed and ready. Off they go as John is driving his off-roader Jeep Rubicon, the drive is approximately about three hours but sure John and "Black I" will both enjoy the long drive. On their way, they came across dozens upon dozens of beautiful places and landscapes, places that take your breath away by just laying your eyes on them.

Finally, after hours of driving John and "Black-I" arrived at the campsite and after taking a breath for about twenty minutes John proceeded by setting up their tents and making sure that he and "Black-I" are well sheltered as night was fast approaching. Meanwhile, he was busy "Black-I" was roaming around like any dog would, but even so, John always kept a watchful eye so that he does not wander too much or a lot further. Again soon after preparing their campsite, John had to start the fire so that he can be able to prepare super for both himself and his beloved dog, the meal was nice, and soon after John would take out his laptop computer and he would watch a few movies while "Black-I" is running around playing and making sure that his owner is protected at the same time. On the second day when John woke up, he once again prepared breakfast for them before they could both go hiking and hunting which was the most fun part for John especially when camping.

At first, it was not an easy task because "Black-I" would interfere and most of the game to be hunted ran away once they spotted the dog, but eventually, he got used to the dynamics of hunting and allowed John to do the job. Luckily John was able to capture something to eat and so they both came back to their campsite at around 15:30 in the afternoon after spending six hours hunting in the field, which meant that food for the day is secured and they will be able to prepare supper again tonight.

The third day started out really cold as John had to drink two cups of coffee before he went hunting again. Unfortunately, this day proved to be difficult for hunting because John and "Black-I" did not even spot a single animal in close proximity instead they were very far from them, so they came back without catching anything luckily again John a man who is always prepared for such things that is why he packed a few extra snacks in their bags. During the night while John was asleep "Black-I" wandered off in an attempt to find food but unfortunately, tragedy struck when he fell off a cliff. "Black I" was Missing and injured and John knows nothing about that.

Chapter Three

When John woke up in the morning at first it didn’t occur to him that Black I might be missing because he thought maybe he was wandering close by, it wasn’t after taking a bath when realized what had happened but even so, and he was pretty confident "Black-I" was still alive wherever he is. He got dressed and drank his coffee while on the lookout for his dog which was not to be seen close by after that John proceeded and left the campsite in search of "Black-I" because he couldn’t go hunting not knowing where his dog was. Not knowing where his dog went John wandered for hours on end without any luck of spotting his dog and at the same time, he was increasingly becoming worried and stressed because now he was starting to really miss his puppy.

The second day also did not produce any results as "Black-I" was still missing and it seemed he was never to be found. It wasn’t until the third day that John decided to change his route, “this time surely I will find "Black-I" he said to himself because he couldn’t have gone too far, especially in unknown territory. As he was about to give up the search for the day because it was about to get very dark soon John heard some cries but he really couldn’t tell if it was "Black-I", another animal, or simply other human beings. He went closer to examine what was going on and to his shock, he saw his beloved dog lying on the side of a cliff which he had fallen from a few days ago, he was still alive but his injuries were severe. When John recovered his dog he immediately rushed back to their campsite and without wasting any time he packed everything and left in a hurry taking his dog to a veterinarian.

"Black-I's"injuries were severe because he suffered some head trauma, a broken leg, and a shattered spine. On the other hand, while John is worried and frustrated he kept on thinking to himself how on earth he allowed this to happen. The dog went on to stay at the hospital for about a week and with very little recovery, meanwhile, John is completely all alone again but this time he is in too much distress and it seems like he is losing his mind.

Unfortunately, two weeks later "Black-I" met his demise while in the hospital bed, John couldn’t hold his tears when he found out what had happened to his dog and he shouted his lungs out because he had lost his loyal friend and companion. Seriously it would take John three months to actually come to terms with what had happened to his dog and during this time he has been completely withdrawn from life because on most days he seemed lifeless. Most of his friends were there for him especially to offer support since well they themselves have found themselves in similar positions before and probably many times, but in a way that really helped John a lot because he knew that also. After the demise of "Black-I," John thought really hard about adopting another dog but he couldn’t because he felt that he would be betraying his pet "Black-I" by replacing him so soon instead he decided to wait and see what the future holds for him.

The End
